Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary – Introduction
Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary is just 42 kms from Jammu. The sanctuary spreads over an area of 97.82 Sq. km. The altitude of the sanctuary ranges between 430 to 611 meters above the sea level. There are two lakes located at the two corners of Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is named after these two lakes. Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary has given a special attention to the world wildlife tourists. Each year many people from different parts of the world come to visit the sanctuary. The pleasant atmosphere of the place has created a natural habitat for several wild and endangered species of plants and animals.
Wildlife in Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary
Surinsar Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary is a safe adobe for 8 species of mammals including barking deer, goral, leopard and wild boars. The flora of the sanctuary is comprised of the mixed scrub forest. One can find various plant species such as Acacia, Bahunia Variegate, Dalbergia Sissii, Ficus Religiosa, Mallotus Phillipensis and Pinus Gerardiana. One can also find more than 15 various species of birds such as Black Partridge, Blue Rock Pigeon, Green Pigeon, Grey Partridge, Peafowl, Red Jungle Fowl and Rufus Turtle Dove.
