Located in the western part of the Chhotanagpur plateau, this reserve is spread over an area of 1026 sq. km with tourist zone of 35 sq. km.
Palamau Tiger Reserve – Introduction
The Palamau Tiger Reserve is established in the year 1974 as a special initiative of the Government of India under the Protected Forest or Reserved Forest under the Indian Forest Act, 1927. Thought the place is solely targeted to the protection of tigers, but still it has many other wild and endangered species of animals and plants. Tourists from all rounds the globe used to come to witness the wildlife that dwells here. The healthy eco-system of the Palamu Tiger Reserve supports this wildlife.
Wildlife in Palamau Tiger Reserve
Palamu Tiger Reserve contains wild animals such as Barking Deer, Cheetal, Elephant, Fourhorned Antelope Indian Ratel.Leopard, Mouse Deer, Pangolin, Sambar, Tiger, Wild Dog and Wolf. The place also has several plant reserves such as Acacia catechu, Adina cardifolia, Bombax ceiba, Bothriochloa montana, Butea monosperma, Dendrocalamus strictus, Diospyros melanoxylon, Imperata arudinacea, Indigofera pulchela, Lannea coromandlica, Mitragyna parviflora and Shorea robusta etc

Winter- Max.23, Min.07 (Degree Centigrade)
Best Time to Visit-
The best time to visit the wildlife is between the months of October to March.
Getting there-
By Air- Ranchi (180 km) is the nearest airport to the Palamu Tiger Reserve. Private transportations are available that ensures connectivity to the airport from the Tiger Reserve.
By Rail- Daltonganj (25 km) is the nearest railway station
By Road- The place is well connected with many important cities such as Daltonganj, ranchi, Dhanbad etc. Daltonganj is the nearest town that is located at a distance of 25 km.
