Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary: Introduction
The Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary is situated amidst natural scenic beauty and landscape alongside the man made Pakhal in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India at an altitude of 280-300 ft from the sea level. The Wildlife Sanctuary got its name from the lake Pakhal, which is situated some 50 kilometres away from Warrangal town. The Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary spreads over an area of 860 square kilometers and was established as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1952. Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary consists of a large plateau surrounded with low hills and its vegetation consists of tropical dry deciduous mixed forests, bamboo and mixed teak forests.
Wildlife in the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary
The beautiful landscapes and suitable environment within the sanctuary provides habitat to many species of woodland animals who roam around in the cover of the forest. The tropical deciduous forests and the wildlife in the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary make it an exhilarating place for visitors. The park is home to great many species of wild animals including leopard, sambhar, nilgai, sloth bear, spotted deer, mountain gazelle, four horned antelope, wild boar and black buck. A large number of migratory birds also come in the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary during their breeding season. The forest area of the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary is covered by evergreen species such as Aegele marmelos and Mallotus philippensis and deciduous vegetation like Adina cordifolia, Bombax ceiba, Bridelia retusa, etc.

Climate : The temperature in the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary area ranges from 15-45 degree centigrade with an average annual rainfall of 1,225mm.
Best time to visit : November to May is the best time to visit the place as the temperature during this period is very pleasant.
How to get there :
By Road : As the sanctuary is situated at a distance of 50-km from Warangal, motor vehiciles are the best ways to reach the sanctuary by road.
By Rail : The nearest rail station is Warangal. Visitors can take Narsampet-Warangal Division which is 50 kms from Warangal.
