Nehru Zoological Park: Introduction
The Nehru Zoological Park is situated in the Bahadurpura area and located near the Mir Alam Tank in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Though the park was established on October 1959 with a view to develop a modern zoo with simulated natural environment, it was declared open to the public on October 6, 1963. The park acquired its name after the first Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The Nehru Zoological Park spreads across a vast area of over 300 acres and has a wide selection of nearly 1,500 species of birds, animals and reptiles.
Wildlife in the Nehru Zoological Park
Landscaped gardens and dense bushes within the Nehru Zoological Park has bred some popular exotic and indigenous animals and birds like the Indian Rhino, Asiatic Lion, Tiger, Panther, Elephants, Rhinoceros, Hippopotamus, Zebras, American bison, Antelopes, Black buck, Chousingha, Chinkara, Deer, Sambhar, Brow Antler Deer Giraffe, Jackals, Wolves, Hyenas, Bears and Reptiles such as Tortoises, Water Turtles, Estuarine Crocodiles, Monitor Lizards, Chameleons, Indian Cobra, Russels Viper, Giant Rock-Python, Tree Snakes, to name only a few. This zoological park provides habitats to primates like Chimpanzee, Mandrill, Orangatun, Chacma, Olive and yellow baboons, Rhesus monkeys, Bonnet, and golden and common langurs. Within the Nehru Zoological Park, there is a Natural History museum which exhibits ancient artifacts and dummies of stuffed animals that have become extinct.

Best time to visit : The Nehru Zoological Park is opened through out the year however it maintains a weekly holiday on Mondays and the week day timings are from 9 a.m. till 5 p.m.
