Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary: Introduction
Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary is located at Palamaner in Chittor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. This wildlife sanctuary is merely 60 kilometers away from Chittor and about 30 kilometers away from the city of Kolar Gold Fields, Karnataka. The Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary, which covers an area of 358-sq-kms, is bounded by small towns like V.Kota, Ramakuppam and villages like Bandarlapalle. As the sanctuary is situated in region where the Deccan Plateau ends, the habitat of the sanctuary is rugged with high hills and deep valleys. Two small streams the Kaigal and the Kaundinya, which flow through the sanctuary, helps in sustaining a diverse floral and faunal species.

Wildlife in the Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary
In the Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary, tourists can find a wide variety of animals like Cheetal, four horned Antelope, Sambhar, Mouse Deer, Hare, Porcupine, Wild boar, Jungle Cat, Jackal, Sloth Bear, Panther, Jungle Fowl, Peafowl's and Elephants. The southern tropical thorn type of forest area in the Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary supports floral species including Albiziaamara, Ficusreligiosa, Ficustomentosa, Ficus Bengalensis, Bamboo, to name only a few. The popularity of the Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary lies in the fact that elephants have returned to this sanctuary after 200 years of migration, looking for habitable forests.

Climate : In the Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary, the tropical climate of peninsular India is usually prevailed through out the year. Maximum temperature shoots upto 40- 45 degree Celsius in summer while the minimum temperature dips down to 15-20 degree celsius in winter.

Best time to visit : The period between October to April is considered the best time to visit this Wildlife Sanctuary.

How to get there
By Road : A number of buses and private transport to the Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary are available from Palamaneru, which is located 41 km from Chittoor.
By Rail : The nearest railway stations is Palamaneru, which is located 41 km from Chittoor.
By Air : Hyderabad, Tirupati, Chennai, and Bangalore are the nearest airport to reach the wildlife sanctuary.
