Indira Gandhi Zoological Park: Introduction
The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is located amidst Kambalakonda Reserve Forest in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This park is situated on the National Highway near Mathurawada, which is about four kilometres away from the Visakhapatnam railway station. The zoological park acquired its name from the former Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, which covers an area of 625 acres, was first declared open to the public on May 19, 1977. This beauty of nature is bounded by Eastern Ghats on three sides and Bay of Bengal on the fourth side.

The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park is a convenient and comfortable natural habitat for different species of animals, birds, and plants. This Zoological Park accommodates nearly eighty species of animals numbering to about eight hundred. It has separate sections for primates, carnivores, lesser carnivores, small mammals, reptiles, ungulates and birds caged in their natural ambiance. The dense forests of the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park hold biodiversities such as the common Langur, Rhesus monkey, Bonnet Monkey, Mandrills, Olive Baboons, Sacred Baboons, Panthers, Tigers, Lions, Pumas, Jaguars, Wolves, Jackals, Wild Dogs, Hyena, Pythons, Snakes, Land Tortoises, Terrapins, Water Monitor Lizards, Monitor Lizards, Elephant, Bison, Sambar, Spotted Deer and Thamin Deer. A varied collection of birds including Grey Pelicans, Rosy Pelicans, Pied Horn Bills, Painted Storks, Peacocks, Ducks, Love Birds, Budgerigars and Cockateels and Hippopotamus are the special attraction at the zoo.

Climate : The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park region observes tropical type of climate. Maximum temperature shoots upto 45 degree celsius in summer while the minimum temperature dips down to 18 degree celsius in winter.
