Hasthinapur Sanctuary: Introduction
Hasthinapur Sanctuary is located in Atawah near Agra in Uttar Pradesh.  The Hasthinapur Sanctuary spreads over an area of 635 sq. km. The Hasthinapur Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled on the estuary of River Hasthinapur and hence acquired its name from there. The Hasthinapur Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a variety of plants like Leptadenia reticulata, Spinifex squarrosus, Spinifex littoreus, Pongamia pinnate, Palmyra, Date-palm, etc.

The dense forest of the Hasthinapur Wildlife Sanctuary consists plant species like Casuarina gladra gigantean Pongamia equisetifolia Cassia Calotropis Thespesia populnea Ipomaea auriculata biloba, Spinifex Leptadenia reticulata, squarrosus, Spinifex littoreus, Pongamia pinnate, Prosopis juliflora Banyan, Peepul, Margosa, Tumma , Mango, Palmyra, Date-palm, to name only a few.

The dense mangrove forests of the Hasthinapur Sanctuary provides habitats to Hyena, Jungle and Fishing, Fox, , Cat Bear Deer, Spotted Sambar, Buck,  Black Cobra, Viper, Water Russels Snake, Rat Snake and Tree Snake, Wall Lizards, Land tortoise, Garden Lizard, and also a good variety of birds including Crested Serpant Eagle, Indian Roller, Wagtails, Pipits. This makes the Hasthinapur Sanctuary is a perfect place for bird-watching.

Climate - The Hasthinapur Sanctuary region observes tropical type of climate. Maximum temperature shoots upto 45 degree celsius in summer while the minimum temperature dips down to 18 degree celsius in winter.

Best time to visit - The period between November to February is considered the best time to visit this place.

Airport- The nearest airport is 110 km away at Delhi.
Road- The sanctuary is well-connected by an extensive network of roads to all the major towns of Uttar Pradesh. The nearest town is Meerut. The National Highway No. 45 runs through Hastinapur and connects it to the rest parts of the state.
Rail- The nearest railway station is 30 km away at Meerut.
