Eravikulam National park is a specially established for the preservation of the endangered species Nilgiri Tahr. Apart from this, here many other flora and fauna can also be found. Wildlife in Eravikulam National park
The Eravikulam national park is home a lot of rare species. The main inhabitant of the Eravikulam Park is the Nilgiri Tahr. It is an endangered species and can be found only in the Eravikulam national park. Now-a-days, the Eravikulam national park has the largest known population of Tahrs existing in the world. The park also have inhabitants like sambar, gaur, golden jackal, Indian muntjac, deer, jungle cat, wild dog, dhole, leopard, tiger, nilgiri langur, stripe-necked mongoose, Indian porcupine, nilgiri marten, small clawed otter, ruddy mongoose, and funambulus sublineatus dusky striped squirrel, and many more.
The major types of plant communities found in the Eravikulam national park are grasslands, shrub lands and forests. The grasslands are found in the terrain above 2000m. There are quite a few small patches of forests in hollows and gullies in these areas. The deeper valleys are extensively forested. The bases of the cliffs are predominated by Shrub lands and interspersed in rocky slab areas. The famous antibacterial named Eupatorium glandulosum is found here.

During this period of time, this locality receives heavy rainfall. The temperature rises to maximum in the months of April and May. During the months of January and February, winter dominates and there is little rainfall. The northern monsoon causes a little rainfall during the months of September to December.
