The Chilika Lake Sanctuary is the largest brackish water lake sanctuary in Asia. Situated southeast of Puri, the famous temple city of India, the lake has got some tiny islands. The famous islands are Parikud, Malud, and Bird’s island. These islands serve as excellent home for the migratory birds. This is the reason Chilika Lake Sanctuary is also a bird sanctuary. Manu world famous birds come here during December to January.

The fauna in Chilika Lake Sanctuary is also quite remarkable. It is most famous for the birds. Apart from the birds, the most commonly found species include Wild Boar, Leopard, Jungle Fowl, Samber, Hyaena, Barking deer, Crocodile, Wild Dog, Chinkara, Wildbore, Four-horned antelope, Sloth Bear, Blue Bull, Bear, etc.
