Goa, one of the states of India has some of the best wildlife sanctuaries and forest reserves in the country. The wildlife sanctuaries are the precious reserves of many wild and endangered plant and animal species. The Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is among many wildlife sanctuaries and forest reserves situated in Goa. The sanctuary has a mini zoo, a deer park, a botanical and a rose garden. All these attract visitors from various parts of the country and even from abroad throughout the year.
Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary – Introduction
The sanctuary is located at a distance of 38 kms from Margao. Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is considered to be an ideal jungle resort and a major attraction for many school going children and lovers of nature and environmentalists. The Sanctuary is about 8 sq. km. in area. This jungle resort has the option for many tourist cottages, which are available on site. These tourist cottages are run and maintained by the Forest Department. The main attractions of the place are the deer safari park, mini zoo, botanic gardens, formal gardens and Eco-Tourism Cottages.
Wildlife in Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary
The entire sanctuary is covered by moist deciduous forests that have small patches of evergreens and canes. One can easily find the state tree Terninalia crenulata, known as Matti and the Rosewood. Commonly found animals in the sanctuary include; the Gaur, the Sambhar deer. Various other animal species are Barking Deer, Hog, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cat, Malabar Giant Squirrel, Porcupines Scaly Ant Eater, Toddy Cat and Wild Boar.

The best time is the post-monsoon season, i.e. Between October to March of each year.

The nearest airport to the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is Dabolim. It is 80km from the wildlife sanctuary.
By Rail -
Margao (38 km) is the nearest railway station.
By Road -
One can easily get to the place by road from Margao and Panaji. It is sanctuary is also connected to Ponda (20 km) and Mollem by road.
