Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary – Introduction
Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary is situated near the town of Molem in Sanguem Taluk,which is located 57 km east of Panaji. In 1969 the place was declared a wildlife sanctuary. The sanvctuary is divided in two parts by the national highway 4A in to two parts. Visitors from many parts of the world come to Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary to view its natural beauty and rich wildlife and forest resource. The place has also several beautiful accommodations to help the tourists spend a cool and pleasant stay. So, the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary witnesses a large number of tourists from the entire globe, every year.
Wildlife in Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary
Various flora and fauna found in Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary include; Leopard, Sloth bear, Cheetah, and birds. Along with this, the sanctuary is also visited by biologists and botanists to study the vast plant reserve it has. The sanctuary is a perfect example of a West Coast Tropical Evergreen Forest. Various predominant plant species found are Dalbergia, Lagerstromia, Terminalia and Xylia.
