Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, Karnataka Karnataka is a state in the southern part of India, which is best known for its vast and diversified wild life resources. The state is place to many renowned wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. Throughout the year many people and tourists come to visit the place. One of the famous wild life sanctuaries, Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the state. The sanctuary is recognized world wide for its rich collection of flora and fauna. The sanctuary is named after the Bhadra River that flows through it. One can find rarest of the rare flora and fauna in the sanctuary.

Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary – Introduction
Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 38 km. northwest of Chikmagalur town in Karnataka and is surrounded by Mullaianagiri, Hebbegiri, Gangegiri and Babaudangiri hills. It is named after the famous river Bhadra that flows through the sanctuary. The place holds a remarkable significance both in the national and international wild life map. The sanctuary is established in the year 1974 by the Government of India. It is home to some of the rare and extinct species of plants and animals in the world. Many people form several parts of the world come to the place due to its immense importance. The sanctuary also offers nature enthusiasts safari facilities at River Tern Lodge which is a Jungle Lodge and Resort undertaking of the karnataka state government.


Wildlife in Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary
One can find different varieties of flora and fauna in the sanctuary. Those mostly include dry deciduous forests with patches of shoal-grassland habitat. The rich wild life in the sanctuary include bison (Gaur), Boar, Chital,Elephants, Leopard, Muntjac, Porcupine, Sambar, spotted deer and Tiger. There are various species of birds such as Bee eaters, Munia, Parrot, Partridge, Peacock and Pigeon. Also the place is home to reptiles such as King Cobras, crocodile, flying lizard, monitor lizard and Indian Rock Pythons.

Climate -  The climate in Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary remains pleasant throughout the year. Climate here is tropical and the summers are a bit hot.

Best Time To Visit -Best time to visit the place is October to May each year..

How to reach there -
The nearest town is Shimoga, located at about 30 kms away. The place is well connected by rail, road and air.
By Rail - Nearest railhead is Tankera, located about 20 kms away.
By Air - Bangalore is the nearest airport, situated at 225 kms away
