Bannerghata National Park – Introduction
Bannerghata National Park is located just 22 kms from Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka, in the southern part of India. Sitruated in a hilly region, the place is home to one of the richest natural, zoological reserves in the country. Spread over an area of 25,000 acre (101 km²), the park is regarded as a major tourist attraction in the city as well as in the state. Bannerghata National Park is a safe shelter for Indian tigers, lions and other mammals. The tiger and lion reserve in the park is adobe for this rarest of rare species of Indian tigers and lions. The park also has a mini safari that contributes to a major part of the revenue generation for the national park. The Tiger Reserve located in the national park is recognized by the Forest Department of India. The fist butterfly park of the country was established in Bannerghatta Biological Park.
Wildlife in Bannerghata National Park
Bannerghata National Park is a safe haven for a variety of plant and animal species. One can find dry deciduous forests and thorny scrub along with patches of moist deciduous forests in the park. Various species of mammals found in the park include, barking deer, bonnet macaque, common langur, elephant, fox, gaur, hare, jackal, leopard, porcupine, sambar, sloth bear, spotted deer and wild pig. Apart from this, there is a rich resource of butterfly in the park and one can find 20 species of butterflies in the park.

Tourists have a pleasant time in the park. One can visit the park on all days of the week except Tuesdays, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
