The
Rachol Fort in Goa is one of the magnificent forts in goa, which is located
near to the famous Rachol Seminary. The Rachol Fort is located 7 Km to the
north-east of Margao near to the Zuari River. This Fort is surrounded by the
dried-up fosse of an old Muslim. One part of the fort is now converted into
a museum. The Rachol Fort with its architectural delight provides very pleasing
look to the Rachol Fort.
According to the history, many bloody battles were fought between the rulers of Vijaynagar and Bijapur to take control of this fort. The fort was later gone under the control of the Portuguese, who used to protect the fort with more than 100 guns. After the Portuguese departure from the fort, the rate of decay of fort was accelerated. Today only the ruins of the glorious fort can be found.
