Being the India's first largest fort, Chittorgarh is a superlative symbol of heroism, Power and status. Very rare of us are known to the fact that the name Chittorgarh has a romantic element attached to it which is why, it was also known as Chittor. The thought of initiating this city was introduced by Bappa Rawal in 8th century. The city is prominent for its very big fort which is 3 miles long and has a height of 495 feet. It is placed at an elevation of 408 meters above the sea level. But, there are also some other structures which are equally important and have become eye tonic for the holidaymakers.
Kirti Stambh is one of the favorite structures in Chittorgarh with the height of 22m called the Kirti Stambh or ‘Tower of Fame’. It was completed approximately in 12th century. This Stambh is basically a Jain structure marvelously built by a Jain merchant to dedicate to a very well-regarded Jain preacher named Adinath. The major centers of attraction are the nude figures of various Tirthankars. You will also see a narrow stairway which paves the way to the seven floors to the top.
This well- liked Kirti Stambh is a very high-flying medieval structure. It was also the proud capital of Mewar throughout 7th and 16th century under the Rajputs time in power. It was once had plentiful forts, palaces and chattris and the city used be at its zenith but now all its glory has come to an end as some of the forts are ruined and some became the victim in the hands of foreign aggressors who assaulted this so many times.
Even though, Chittor is illustrious for Rajputs laudable deeds but the land of this city has served its purpose in many ways. The people of this land have always been an immense follower of Jain religion and are still continuing with it. Aficionados who support Jainism come every year to pay huge reverence to Lord Adinath at Kirti Stambh.
A Trip to Kirti Stambh will bless you with the perfect pilgramge tour especially for those who are ardent lovers of Jainism.
