It is rightly said that beauty lies in the eyes of beholder. So, if you are seeking for any beautiful yet religious place, there could be nothing exceptional than Ganga Temple in Bharatpur. It is a magnum opus of art and architecture which strikes most to the tourists. The very Ganga Temple is nestled in the heart of the city and acts as a resting place to various supernatural beings. The temple is mainly a stopover to the devotee as it is believed that a person’s unmet desires gets fulfilled once he steps in here. The splendid architecture of the city leaves us awestruck and bags us with its unforgettable memories.
The foundation of the temple was laid by Maharaja Balwant Singh who once used to be head of the Bharatpur state. Maharaja Balwant Singh’s wish to have a child was deeply accomplished by goddess Ganga which is why he ordered to have a temple built to pay his gratitude to goddess and it took good long 91 years to complete it. Once the structure was ready it was Brijendra Singh the descendant of Maharaja Balwant Singh who named it as Ganga Temple
You will also find an amazingly looking a huge dummy of crocodile considered as a carrier of goddess Ganga. Countless devotees come and take the holy water of Ganga to their home which is kept in a huge silver pot near the feet of the goddess especially brought from Haridwar each year. The disciples are also given prasad which is highly delicious. Nevertheless, the intricate carvings of Rajputana, Mughal and South Indian styles of architecture on the walls and pillars of Ganga Temple are worth appreciating.
It would be a sheer stupidity on our part if, we miss out on such exotic location which has religious yet adventurous sight to offer us being a tourist.
