Introduction to Alwar Government Museum
Alwar Government museum is a rich repository of arts and artifacts that mirror the affluent culture of Rajasthan. History of Alwar Government Museum
The foundation of the museum was laid in year 1908 and is proved to be a storehouse of cultural heritage of the state.

Description of Alwar Government Museum
The description of Alwar Government Museum includes three different sections. Each section has its own distinct features. Commencing from the first section, it puts light on archaeological facts and figures. These archaeological findings have kept the history of Rajasthan region alive in this museum. For instance, the Rajput kings of that time had a great interest in hunting of wild animals. So, they used to take a great pride in presenting the skin of any animal from leopard to tiger to the museum. Gradually, it formed a huge collection of portion of these hunted animals.

Whereas, the second section of the Alwar Government museum is the most important section. It has manuscripts of the various languages such as Persian, Arabic, Sanskrit and Urdu. It also contains the beautiful paintings of Gulistan of S'adi (the Garden of roses), Bostan (the Garden of Spring) and Waqiat-e-Babri (Mughal Emperor Babar's autobiography).

The third last section has artistic association. It exhibits brass and pottery works, bird and ivory works from Jaipur, Multan. Ceylon and Bengal and some stuffed animals. It also stores the arms and ammunition that include pistols, rifles, daggers, shields, swords and some other weapons.

The most attractive piece of art painted by the Alwar School of painters is still kept alive in the museum is the copy of the Mahabharata.

Being a traveler, it is very important for you to know the timings to visit the museum. It is Open on all the days from 10 A.M. to 4.30 A.M. except on Fridays and guested holidays.
