Tawang
is a small hill station located in north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Perched in the lap of the Himalayan ranges, Tawang is at an altitude of 3400
metres above the sea level. The landscape of Tawang assumes an altogether
new look during snowfall in the months of December and January. Tawang is
also known for Buddhist influences and has one of the biggest monasteries of

Sightseeing at Tawang -
Tawang Monastery : One of the biggest monasteries of India, the Tawang Monastery is also known as Galden Namgyal Lhatse. The monastery has an 18 feet high gilded statue of Gautam Buddha. The monastery was founded by Mera Lama in the mid-17th century. The monastery is a treasure trove of Tibetan Buddhist culture. The monastery also houses a library that has an impressive collection of rare Buddhist manuscripts and thanka paintings. The monastery is visited by followers of Buddhism in large numbers.
The landscape : It may be mentioned that Tawang is popular not so much for particular tourist attractions but for its magnificent landscape. The snow clad Himalayan ranges could be seen from very close quarters in Tawang. The waterfalls of Tawang add to the beauty of the landscape. the entire place turns white when there is snowfall during winters.
Reaching
Tawang Air : The airport nearest to Tawang is Tezpur airport in Assam at a distance of some 160 kms.
Rail : Tezpur railway station is also the nearest railhead at a distance of 160 kms.
Road : As Tawang is located in a remote part of the country, it can only be reached through Tezpur. The terrain is hilly and difficult and it may take anything between 12 to 24 hours to reach the place from Tezpur. Direct buses can also be boarded from Guwahati.
