Introduction about Theyyam at Kanthoor : Theyyam is one of the colorful ritualistic dances of Kerala. This dance form is all about worshipping the ancestral spirits and the heroes which belong to the traditional lifestyle of Kerala. Theyyam at Kanathoor is all about huge celebrations, color, dance and music. This colorful festival is a major attraction among the people from all around the country.
Description: The Theyyam is one of the oldest art forms in Kerala. This is an annual ten day affair which takes place at Kanathoor Nalvar Bhoothasthanam. A variety of Theyyams such as Elayor Theyyam, Chamunda Theyyam, Panchoorla Theyyam, Muthor Theyyam are presented in Kanathoor. One of the fascinating rituals practiced for ages is called Thirayattom which is observed in Kavus or village temples. There are about 400 Theyyams in Northern Kerala. During the Theyyams the singer portrays the thought provoking images through his dance steps and loud voice. The Theyyams later evolved into the Krishnattom and Kathakali. The spectators thoroughly enjoy Theyyams at Kanathoor and they get acquainted with different art forms of Kerala.
