Introduction about Thaipoova Mahotsam KoorKancherry: Thaipoova Mahotsam Koorkancherry is one of the most celebrated festivals of Kerala .The annual seven day celebration is also referred as Thaipooya Kavadiyattam. The Sree Maheswara Temple at Koorkancherry in Thrissur is the place where this festival held annually. is the festival that brings down the riot of colors to the town. The whole of town is painted with different colors in order to celebrate the occasion. The main festivity takes place on the pooram day when devotees from all across pour in to participate in the occasion.
Description: Thaipoova Mahotsam is held at Sree Maheshwar Temple of Thrissur. The seven day long festival is celebrated with the spirit of colors that painted the whole town. The main celebration begins on the Pooram day. All the devotees gathered at the wee hours. Devotional rites are performed from 4 a.m in the morning followed by the processions of the devotees. The devotees carry the exotic Kavadi on their shoulders during the procession. They stream into the temple courtyard where the main rituals are performed.
Time for celebration: The kavadiyattam continues till late afternoon after which the procession marches with the deity who is accompanied by the elegantly caparisoned elephants. In the evenings the visitors get to witness one of the finest performances in folk arts like Karakkattom and Mayilattam.
