Introduction about Madiyan Kooloom Temple : The principle deity of the Madiyan Kooloom Temple at Madiyan is Bhadrakali. This goddess is also known as Kalarithi. Besides this the temple also includes other deities like God Kshetra Palan, Bhairavan and Bhagavathy. A Brahmin priest conducts the Puja at noon while in the morning and at the evening the Puja is usually performed by the people of the Manyani sect.
Description: The Kalasam festival celebrated at Madiyan Kooloom temple involves the worshipping of the Varalakshmi Goddess. A bronze or silver Kalasam is filled with water, rice, lime, five specific types of leaves and few coins. The pot is smeared with sandalwood paste and covered with a new cloth up to the neck with a coconut placed on the top represents the divine Mother Goddess. Thousands of devotees gather at the temple to pay homage to the goddess. Another famous festival at the Madiyan Kooloom Temple at Madiyan is Puttulsavam. This occasion in the Dhanu Month also involves certain cultural programs.
Time for celebration: The Kalasam Festival is usually held in May which is the month of Edavam while the Pattulsavam is held in December-January the month of Dhanu.
