Introduction to the Machattu Mamangam : The Machattu Mamangam in Kerala is an annual extravaganza which is celebrated with full passion .The venue for the festival is fixed at the Machattu Thiruvanikavu Temple at Vadakkancherry in Thrissur district. The five day long celebration includes huge crowd, exhilarating entertainment and fanfare.

The magnificent five day splendor continues with loads of celebration. The last day is scheduled for the main events when huge structures heavily decorated with ornaments and other materials are taken out for processions. The temple is the centre of attraction where the Machattuvela festival is staged with great passion and devotion.
The Kuthirakolams, motifs of horses are ceremoniously taken out for processions on the street. These motifs of horses represent different villages of the region. As a myth the Goddess Bhagavathy leaves the temple to visit the homes of the devotees all around and accepts the offerings in turn showers blessings on them. The procession also accompanies the elephants dressed up in royal fashion along with the Chendamelam, traditional percussion music making the event a real treat to the visitors.
Time for celebration: The annual event is scheduled for third week of the month of February and it continues for five days with various celebrations.
