Introduction about Jagannatha Festival: The Jagannatha Temple is one of the most revered Hindu shrines of Kerala. The temple attracts much of its reputation from conducting inter-caste marriages, which is still considered a taboo in many parts of India.
Description: Sree Narayana Guru a famous social reformer of Kerala , founded the temple towards the beginning of the past century. It enshrines the idol of Lord Jagannatha (Siva). Jagannatha Festival is an eight day long festival out of which seventh day is considered as the most auspicious day. Seven elephants decked in gorgeous fineries and clothes make a procession. The unique feature of this festival is the religious conferences where scholars and social leaders from various corners of the state to take part in the conferences. Besides this Jagannatha Festival gives you a good opportunity to savor the mouthwatering traditional delicacies of Kerala.
Time for celebration: Jagannatha Utsavam is held in Madathilparambu, close to Kannur, every year during 17–25 February.
