Introduction to Cochin carnival : The people of Kerala celebrate all its festivals with a great zeal and enthusiasm. The Cochin Carnival brings a lot of joy and delight to the people of Kerala. Kochi Fort is the center of attraction and merriment that takes place during the Cochin Carnival.
Description: The history of this grand feast dates back to the colonial era. The Portuguese welcomed the New Year with a lot of gaiety and fervor. This colorful fiesta contributes Peace, Participation, Progress, Adventure and Environment to the lives of people. People thoroughly enjoy themselves by participating in various activities and games. Many competitions like beach bike race, sea swimming beach football and beach volleyball are organized which attract lot of locals and foreigners. A grand procession of decorated elephants along with the performances by talented folk artists and the music created by the harmonious blending of five instruments called as the Panchavadyam are among the major attractions of this carnival.
Time for celebration: This Carnival in Cochin held every year in the last week of December.
