Introduction about Adoor Mahalingeshwara The Adoor Mahalingeshwara Temple is one of the most beautiful temples in Kerala. Makara Sankramam is an important ceremony held here. The festival at the Adoor Temple consists of a holy dip into the river Payasini and concludes with mass feeding. It is known as Kumbhabhishekam.
Description: According to the legend, a Harijan, has discovered the Shiva lingam on his way to work. Since the lingam Shiva was discovered by a common man, this day is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm. People gathered at the temple premises and wear their choicest costumes. They celebrate the Makara Sankramam Festival. They pray to Lord Shiva and ask for their
prosperity and happiness. On this auspicious day people take a dip to the river Payasini and feed the poor people.
Time for celebration: The Festival at the Adoor Mahalingeshwara Temple is held in the month of February-March. It begins with the Dwajahoranam.
