Chavittunatakom Dance- Kerala
Chavittunatakom Dance in Kerala is one of the oldest Christian dance forms in Kerala. It literally means 'Stamping Drama'. Its origin can be traced to the time of Portuguese invasion during the 16th century A.D. with the Portuguese colonization. The dance is represented in the form of musical drama where the actors wear Greco-Roman costumes and even the stage props bear several foreign influences. In the past, the Chavittunatakom was performed on open stages, or sometimes the interior of a church was also a venue. The language is a conversational mix of Tamil and Malayalam.
