Natana Kairali Research & Performing Centre for Traditional Arts, Thrissur imparted a new lease of life to many traditional art forms that were on the verge of decline. It was set up by Gopal Venu. Over the years this cultural center of Kerala has contributed enormously to the growth and development of diverse art forms that reflects the rich traditional heritage of the land. It is indeed remarkable that lot of research work has been undertaken along with the training provided to the young art students at the centre. This helps them to know more about the traditional art forms of Kerala and perform well in the international arena. The teachers themselves put up performances to enable these students with potential to learn better. Various workshops, seminars and cultural shows are organized for their better understanding of these art forms.
All kinds of artistic and educational activities are nurtured, encouraged and promoted at Natana Kairali Research & Performing Centre for Traditional Arts at Thrissur. Koodiyattam, a form of Sanskrit theatre, Nangiar Koothu, a form of Sanskrit drama, puppetry shows Pavakathakali and Tolpavakuttu have all been nurtured and rejuvenated at the Natana Kairali Research & Performing Centre for Traditional Arts, Thrissur. Besides this the works of Kalidasa have been staged here over and over again which has received world wide praise and appreciation across the globe. An annual festival is held in the month of January that gives the visitors a chance to witness programmes put up by the talented artistes. They also have the privilege of participating in short appreciation courses as well.
