The Shashur Monastery is a beautiful monastery, which is situated at a distance of just 3 km from Keylong in the Lahaul valley. This monastery was erected by Lama Dewa Tyatsho of Ladakh in the 17 century AD. The Shashur Monastery consists of three storied buildings at 600 meters high valley to the top of a hill.
The main attraction of Shashur Monastery is the 5m high wall paintings and a statue of Namgyal. The ‘Thangka’ inside the monastery complex is renowned all over the Lahaul region. The Shashur Monastery is a venue to an annual festival. Travel to witness Shashur Monastery in the months of June-July to enjoy this enchanting festival where you can witness the monks performing devil dance. Rituals are performed by the lamas during this festival.
