India tour offers you an opportunity to witness the Govindgarh Fort, which is located in Amritsar. This fascinating fort was built in 1760. According to the history of India, this enticing fort was known as the fort of Gujjar Singh Bhangi. This fort was again rebuilt by Maharaja Ranjit Singh with the assistance of Jodh Singh. He used to keep his treasures and treaties in safety inside this fort. The Govindgarh Fort was built up of bricks and lime. There are two strong iron gates and 25 cannons, which were now replaced with modern weapons. This fort extent to a vast area of 1500 sq. meters. The main entrance gate of the fort has been named as Nalwa Gate and the other gate is called as Keelar Gate.
After partition of India, this fort had served as a temporary shelter to a large number of refugees from Pakistan. Later, in the year 1948, this magnificent fort was handed over to the Indian Army.
