Mina Masjid is situated just above the Sheesh Mahal, constructed by Shah Jahan
for entirely personal usages. It is made of marble consisting of three small
arches in its façade. The mosque is enclosed on four sides by high walls.
This huge construction is erected for the royal ladies near Diwan-I- Khas in
between 1631-40. Thus the Mina Masjid was placed close to the residents of

It is said that Shah Jahan himself stayed in the last days (in the period of 1658-66) of his life in Mina Masjid as his son Aurangzeb imprisoned him. It is an unadorned and simple building enclosed by high walls but a highly visited place for the tourist of Agra. Only ornamental elements needs to build the mosque were marble tiles. Four exquisitely carved and shaped white marble brackets supporting its chajja. A small window of the chamber overlooks the near by Machhchi Bhawan.
