The formation of Hauz Khas in South Delhi was the hobby horse of Alauddin Khilji in 1284. Well, the word Hauz is an Urdu word whose meaning is Pond. The royal leader Alauddin Khilji bespoke an outsized pond or tank in this locality for the consumption of the natives of Siri Fort, the following town of Delhi. In the former times, Hauz Khas was recognized as Hauz-i-Alai as the name kept in the name of the then ruler Alauddin Khilji. But later, Firuz Shah Tughlaq announced to dirt free the reservoir which was occupied with silt. He also ordered to construct magnificent baths on the south of the tank and renamed as Hauz-Khas.
