HIMALAYAN INSTITUTE

The Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust (HIHT) is a nonprofit organization committed to the premise that all human beings have the right to health, education, and economic self-sufficiency. The mission of the Trust is to develop integrated and cost-effective approaches to health care and development that address the local population, and which can serve as a model for the country as a whole, and for the underserved population worldwide.

HIHT is located in the newly formed state of Uttaranchal, one of the under-developed states of India. A bold vision to bring medical services to the millions of people in northern India, many of whom are underprivileged and have little or no health care, began modestly in 1989 with a small ouptatient department. Today it is the site of a world class medical city and educational campus offering a full range of medical specialties and services. This transformation is the result of the vision of H.H. Dr. Swami Rama.

THE HOSPITAL

The Himalayan Institute Hospital offers a range of services previously not locally available to the people of the Himalayas.

INPATIENT SERVICES

The hospital opened in 1994 with two hundred fifty beds. Since opening, the hospital has expanded its capacity to seven hundred beds and plans call for further expansion to two thousand beds. There are spacious and airy general wards, post-surgical wards, observation wards for those who need special attention as well as semi-private and deluxe accommodations for those who prefer privacy.

OUTPATIENT SERVICES

Outpatient consultation services in all general and specialty departments are scheduled daily, Monday through Saturday, from 09.00 am to 16.30 hrs. Specialty departments include : general internal medicine, general surgery, plastic surgery orthopedics, gastroenterology oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, pediatric surgery, cardiology, urology, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, respiratory medicine, ENT, ophthalmology, dentistry, dermatology, psychiatry, homoeopathy, ayurveda and rehabilitation medicine.
