History of Vadodara

The history of Vadodara dates back to 812 AD. At that time it was just a tiny settlement, a little away from the present location of the city of Vadodara. It was known as “Baroda” in the past. The history of Vadodara was affluent. It was a prominent native state of India in the western part of the subcontinent and had direct association with the Indian Government. But, if we talk geographically, then the state was in direct connection with the Bombay Presidency.

TSI India provides complete online information about Vadodara. Many rulers ruled this tantalizing land of gardens. The city was under the dominion of Hindu rulers till 1297. They controlled the land till the onset of the Mughal Empire.

Vadodara later turned into a fresh throttlehold of the Maratha Gaekwads. They made Vadodara their capital in the year 1735. Their control continued till India got independence in the year 1947. As we unravel the information on Vadodara, we find that its history has many chapters. In 1947, the name “Baroda” was changed to “Vadodara”. When India got independence, Vadodara was amalgamated into the conventional Indian states and became a part of the newly formed state of Gujarat.

Vadodara history is so colorful that even today the glimpses of its past can be seen in the newly emerged city.
