Fairs and Festivals in India

India is a country with diverse culture and tradition. The diverse culture & tradition has given birth to various fairs & festivals, most of which are based on harvesting. There is festival of light - Deepawali, festival of colours - Holi. There are festivals for brothers & sisters, mothers, husbands, brothers, children, etc. Indian see God in every living and non-living thing. Even rivers, mountains, ponds, lakes, trees, flowers, animals, birds, reptiles are sacred here. Starting from Sunday till Saturday, each day of the week has some religious significance. The fairs and festivals of India are very compelling and entertaining. Sweets, fair, grand and elaborate menu, are some of the musts in the Indian fairs & festivals.
Apart from the Hindu Festivals, there are Navroz, Christmas, Id, which are celebrated with equal entertainment throughout the country.



The people of North India celebrates numerous fairs & festivals through out the year. Starting from January to February, each day is dedicate to some Gods or Goddesses. The Deepawali, Holi and Navaratri are the most popular festivals which are celebrated with much pomp and show and by a large number of people. Sweets, fair, new dresses, home decoration, meeting family and friends are the common things to see in all the festivals here.
The fair which are most popular are Kumbha Mela (celebrated after every 12 years), Taj Mahotsav, Khajuraho Dance Festival, Surajkunda Crafts Mela (Fair), Pushkar Camel Fair, and much more.
Fairs and Festivals in North India

South India is home to numerous highly venerated temples, which showcases some most spellbinding architecture of all times. These temples are the venue of numerous fairs & festivals. Some of the festivals which are celebrated with much fun & fair in South India are Deepawali, Dussehra, Onam, Pongal, boat race (a major event in Kerala backwaters), etc. Christmas is also celebrated at some parts of South India.

As in other parts of India, the western part of India too has numerous fairs & festivals, which will keep you occupied through out your trip. Ganesh Chatturthi is one most major festival of the Maharashtrians. Ganesh is worshipped equally at others parts of the country, but the Festival of Ganesh Chaturthi in Maharashtra is worth seeing. If you prefer to be in Goa, then don't miss the Goa Carnival or the Christmas, both will compel you to tap your feet at every bit of the drum.
