Commonwealth Sports 2010
Commonwealth, the distinctive multi-sport event is going to be held in the Indian capital, Delhi. All the different sports are incorporated that make it a grand successful event. In the first Commonwealth Game in Hamilton 1930; these six sports were mainly competed as Athletics, Aquatics, (Swimming & Diving), Boxing, Lawn Bowls, Rowing, and Wrestling.
Each candidate city willing to host a Commonwealth Game should incorporate a minimum of 10 core sports in their Programme. Also it has to include up to an extra 7 from a list of optional sports, with a maximum of 4 team sports in their Programme.
Core, optional or recognized are three varieties of commonwealth games. Other sports currently acknowledged by the CGF is not yet been integrated on the Programme of the Commonwealth Games. The games of commonwealth are: Billiards/Snooker, Canoeing, Golf, Handball, Life Saving, Softball, Yachting/Sailing, and Volleyball. Cricket is not currently listed as a recognized sport as it appeared in the programme in Kuala Lumpur 1998. Kabaddi is also a demonstration sport in the 2010 commonwealth Games.
The organizers have also suggested removing basketball and to include archery, tennis, billiards and snooker for men. It has been said that Cricket is in strong demand but the organizers do not want a one day tournament in commonwealth games.
