Buried amongst coconut palms and cashew
tree plantations on the edge of ashthamudi lake, this small market town of
old wooden houses with red-tiled roofs overhanging winding streets is
perhaps the most typical of keralian towns. It's also the gateway to the
backwaters of Kerala. Chinese fishing nets on Ashtamudi lake and
shrine of lady of velamkanni are the attractions in Kollam.
