Travel to Jammu and Kashmir to witness the ravishing Takthok Monastery of Ladakh. This beautiful monastery is located in Sakti Village at a distance of 46 km from Leh. The literal meaning of Takthok is ‘Rock Proof’. It was named so because the roof and the walls of the monastery are made up of rock. The Takthok Monastery serves as the residence of more than 55 lamas.
The Chapel cave of the monastery is located to the left of the central courtyard. You can find images of Padme Sambhava and Avalokitesvara opposite to the Chapel cave. To the right of the central courtyard, there is an assembly hall. This assembly hall is popularly known as Dukhang. Inside the Dukhang, you can view the statues of Maitreya (the future Buddha), Padmasambhava and Dorje Takposal. There is a throne in this assembly hall. The beautiful paintings of Sakyamuni to the right of the throne are very beautiful. This Gompa is a venue to annual festival that is celebrated on the 9th and 10th day of the sixth month of the Tibetan calendar. Travelers from the whole world come to enjoy this festival.
