The Stongdey Monastery is a major monument in North India. It is located to a distance of 18 Km from Padum. The Stongdey Monastery was founded by Lama Lhodak Marpa Choski Lodos in 1052. It is the second largest monastic institution in Zanskar. The Stongdey Monastery serves as the residence of about 60 monks.
You can admire a number of beautiful temples inside the monastery complex. The beautiful wall paintaings in the interior of the monastery is truly adorable. This beautiful monastery is also the venue of Gustor festival. This colourful festival is celebrated annually on the 28th and 29th day in the eleventh month of the Tibetan calendar. You can admire the dances of the sacred monks during this festival. The Stongdey Monastery has never failed to allure the travelers, since time immortal.
