Jammu and Kashmir tour offers you an opportunity to view the fascinating monasteries of the state. The Stakna Gompa of Ladakh is also a ravishing monastery that is located on the right bank of the Indus River. This monastery is located at a distance of 25 km from Leh. Stakna Gompa was founded by Chosje Jamyang Palkar in the 16th century. The literal meaning of Stakna is 'Tiger's Nose'. The monastery is built on a hill, which resembles like a tiger’s nose and thus the monastery got its name. The monastery was so named because it was built on a hill, which is shaped just like a tiger's nose.
Tourists can admire the image of the sacred Arya Avalokitesvara in the centre of the monastery. This image was brought from Kamrup (Assam). There are many other monasteries attached to it. They are namely Stakrimo, Bardan, Sani etc. There is a big hall in the central courtyard of the monastery. Travel to Ladakh to admire the beauties of the Stakna Gompa.
