The Shey Gompa is one of the ravishing monasteries of Ladakh, which is situated on a hillock. It is located at a distance of 15 km to the south of Leh. This fascinating monastery showcases a rich legacy of Indian history. The Shey Gompa is founded by King Deldon Namgyal in the 17th century. The main highlight of the monastery is the metal statue of Buddha in the Shey Gompa. This statue is considered to be the second largest Buddha Statue in Ladakh region. This statue is embedded with copper sheets and gold plate. You can witness image of two chief disciples of Buddha namely, Sariputra and Maudgalyayana.
