Baisakhi
Baisakhi is one of the major Jammu festivals. The name “Baisakhi” is derived from the word “Vaisakh”. Vaisakh is the first month according to Hindu calendar. This festival is celebrated on the 13th of April as the beginning of New Year. The day is also thought to be propitious for marriages. It is basically the harvest festival. Fairs and festivals in Jammu are celebrated all across the state of Kashmir. Baisakhi is one such example. On the day of Baisakhi, devotees from all around the state take a ritual dip in the waterbed of their region. This day has great significance to Sikhs.
Lohri
Lohri is another major local festival of Jammu. It is celebrated to welcome the Spring Season on 13th January every year. “Havans” and other rituals are performed in homes.
Other Jammu festivals include Chaitre Chaudash, Purmandal Mela, Bahu Mela, Jhiri Mela and Mansar Food and Craft Mela.
