Of many forts and monuments in Jammu and Kashmir, the Bardan Monastery of Ladakh is also one of them. It is located on a hill at a distance of 12 km to the south of Padum. This fascinating monastery belongs to the Dugpa-Kargyud monastic order. Infact, it is one of the oldest monasteries of Ladakh that dates back to 17th century. The assembly hall of the Bardan Gompa is very large. Inside the hall one can find some brilliant collection of statues of Buddhist divinities and some small stupas made up of clay, wood, copper and bronze. The monastery of Muney, which is famous for its splendid art treasures, also lies very near to the Badan Monastery. The fascination of the monastery attracts the tourists of the entire globe.
