Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park: Introductions
Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is situated in Vanasthalipuram, Andhra Pradesh at a distance of 15 km from the city of Hyderabad 15-km on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada road. The park acquired its name from the famous Jain saint “Lord Mahavira” and was established in the year 1975, in remembrance of his 2500th birth anniversary. Besides Acacias, neem, Bauhinias, Buteas and a variety of thorny species of scrub are found in this dry scrub forest. The Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park looks amazing in the monsoon with the golden and white flowers of these trees on the lush green carpet of grass.
Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park: Wildlife
Endangered Black bucks with their spiral horns is the main attraction of the Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park, where more than 400 black bucks are found. Other then this, several other species of birds are also found such as Partridges, Quails, peacocks, Doves, pond herons, egrets, kingfishers, cormorants and birds of prey like kites, vultures etc. A large variety of migratory birds of over 80 species can also be seen throughout the year. Another rare species that can be seen here are the Short-toed Eagle. Apart from this about 500 Cheetals and large herds of wild boar also adds to the treasure of Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park. Most Common animals that are found here are monitor lizards, mongooses, and porcupines besides a variety of snakes. Several species of birds like Partridges, Quails, peacocks, Doves, pond herons, egrets, kingfishers, cormorants and birds of prey like kites, vultures etc are also the part of the small family of Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park.
