Jaisalmer is located in the heart of the Thar Desert. Jaisalmer was founded by Rawal Jaisal, and so the city got its name as Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer is popularly called as the “Golden City”. This occurs because of the honey colour imparted by the sand to the stone ramparts. The Jaisalmer city was surrounded completely by extensive walls. It provides an extra safety to the city.

Gyan Bhandar or Library : People from all round the world used to come to this library to find some of the oldest manuscripts of India. This library is a part of Jain temple.
